about
Inspired after seeing performances by Patti Smith and Adrian Crowley.
Patti made me lose my composure and weep cathartic sobs - the first time I cried at a gig. Since then I have made something of a habit of weeping at really good gigs. I think it's a mixture of relief and release.
lyrics
Where is the promise? The magic in numbers
The softly uttered restlessness
Sent up to tell, we left it to others
And they have not done well, done well, done well
They have not done well, done well, done well
It's hard when you find the sand slipping away
The springs that unwind and decay
It's hard not to number the reasons today
Why the time of fulfilment's put off and delayed
Difficulty is the cloak, the disguise
Of the summons to be bold
Turn on your radar for what you are told
Your thoughts are the only things you can control
The river still flows, as red rivers must
We're human bridges and we will rust
If we feed our hearts on scraps and crusts
If we never shake off the sorrow and dust
It's hard when you find your hands gripping the air
Convenient fictions all laid bare
We dwell behind doors in the smallest of selves
Fluffing the main chance, prevented, withheld
The river still flows, as red rivers must
We're human bridges and we will rust
If we feed our hearts on scraps and crusts
If we never shake off the sorrow and dust
The river still flows, as red rivers must
We're human bridges and we will rust
If we feed our hearts on scraps and crusts
If we never shake off the sorrow and dust
The river still flows, the river still flows
Sent up to tell we left it to others
Sent up to tell we left it to others
Sent up to tell we left it to others
Sent up to tell
Where is the promise? The magic in numbers
The softly uttered restlessness
Sent up to tell, we left it to others
And they have not done well.
